Protect the People is working with the NATO Allied Transformation Command (ATC) on a serious game for Civil-Military training. This 3D virtual reality takes a military and civilian avatar through a complex crisis scenario. From a local town affected by conflict, to a refugee camp where the needs are great, our Subject Matter Expert (SME) is creating storyboards and scripting teachable moments that help civil and military actors understand each other’s unique role in humanitarian crisis. The serious game will be part of NATO’s Advanced Distributive Learning (ADL) courses.
PTP is working with the U.S. Army Southern Command on a Peacekeeping in the Americas (PKO-A) exercise. This annual Combatant Commander exercise builds partner nation capacity to plan, support and execute United Nations peacekeeping operations. This year’s themes include the Protection of Civilians, Women Peace and Security, and Stability Operations. PTP will brief teams from troop contributing countries (TCCs) from the Americas region on the Protection of Civilians, creating vignettes that show how civilians are protected in practice by UN missions, and leading trainees through a series of complex decision making processes.
Protect the People is a member of the U.S. Civil Society Working Group on Women, Peace, and Security at the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), a group of experts and civil society organizations advising the U.S. Government on the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. The plan is based on UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which seeks to ensure that women play an active role in the political processes and security sector reform, and that their needs are taken into account in humanitarian operations including protection from violence.
